# Why your music stops the moment you hit record

By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026

**Short answer**Many camera apps take over the phone's audio when recording starts, which pauses music from other apps. Filming the speaker sound from another device, or using a camera app built to keep other audio playing, avoids it.

* Recording grabs the microphone, and some apps tell iOS to stop other audio so it doesn't bleed into the take.
* If you're DJing from a laptop or controller, the music isn't on the phone, so the phone just records the room sound.
* If the music is playing from the same phone, you need a camera app that keeps other apps' audio running while it records. Music Wide Selfie is built for exactly that: music keeps playing and your voice is recorded with it.

Music Wide Selfie is coming soon to the App Store. Features vary by iPhone model and iOS version.
